Domaine des Varoilles is one of the oldest known estates in Burgundy. It covers over 10 hectares and includes Gevrey Chambertin premier cru and grand cru. The Domaine was already cited in the 12th century.
They are sole owners of the parcels Gevrey-Chambertin “Clos des Meix des Ouches”, “Romanee 1er Cru”, “Clos de Varoilles 1er Cru”. They have a small production of Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru and Clos Vougeot Grand Cru. The wine’s style is influenced by the character of the terroir, specific to each cru.
All of the crus from the Domaine des Varoilles are aged and bottled at the estate. The vinification is in stainless steel in centuries old vaulted cellars from the ancient convent of Gevrey Chambertin, the property of the Domaine.

The 2005 vintage was the turning point. New vinification
techniques produced
excellent wines with body, depth, excellent fruit, length,
and above all charm.
The colors and aromas are seductive. The 2005 vintage
was completely sold out.

Gevrey-Chambertin Champonnet 2015
Ample cherry, plum, tobacco and mineral flavors form the middle of this red, even though this starts out on the shy side. Builds to a fine, saturated finish with brisk acidity and assertive tannins, so be patient. Best from 2022 through 2043. B.S.
